Movie Overview For Red Lights
Two investigators of paranormal hoaxes, the veteran Dr. Margaret Matheson and her young assistant, Tom Buckley, study the most varied metaphysical phenomena with the aim of proving their fraudulent origins. Simon Silver, a legendary blind psychic, reappears after an enigmatic absence of 30 years to become the greatest international challenge to both orthodox science and professional sceptics. Tom starts to develop an intense obsession with Silver, whose magnetism becomes stronger with each new manifestation of inexplicable events. Review For Red Lights
A clever thriller, bolstered by three great performances.Bruce Demara-Toronto Star
The film doesn't offer the sense of release, or of surprise, that it seems to take for granted.
Adam Litovitz-Globe and Mail
"The X-Files" is long gone. Hail and farewell. But its spirit lives on in "Red Lights." Hail, hail.
Soren Anderson-Seattle Times
By strict definition, any movie featuring Robert De Niro as a spoon-bending clairvoyant superstar ought to hold a few cards up its sleeve.
Amy Biancolli-San Francisco Chronicle
A lot of talent comes up empty in "Red Lights," a thriller that doesn't thrill.
Bill Goodykoontz-Arizona Republic
With the sort of last-minute plot twist that sank M. Night Shyamalan's career, Red Lights comes to an unexpected, risible end.
Rene Rodriguez-Miami Herald
It's crushingly disappointing when it falls apart so completely in the second half.
Andy Lea-Daily Star
Cillian Murphy talks about escaping Hollywood's "villain" trap.
Roger Moore-McClatchy-Tribune News Service
Red Lights is proof that Rodrigo Cortés knows how to shoot a film and make it look gorgeous. It's also proof that a cast list as strong as this one still can't overcome a weak script that fizzles out by the second act.
Jeremy Lebens-We Got This Covered
It almost feels like an occult thriller that has slowly transformed into a comedy -- and you didn't even notice.
Scott Weinberg-FEARnet
Red Lights has a decent premise, but the script lets the actors down. While it has interesting twists and bucks convention, the story is just far too weak to be enjoyable.
Billy Tatum-We Got This Covered
A fun caper thinly veiled as a supernatural thriller - a mystery loaded with all the tricks and devices recently made popular by M. Night Shyamalan.
Justin Craig-FoxNews.com
The fact that Red Lights' action doesn't operate in a recognizable universe, however, is a constant problem.
Nick Schager-Paste Magazine
The degree to which Red Lights ultimately peters out is nothing short of spectacular...
David Nusair-Reel Film Reviews
It's nonsense on a plot level but played seriously without nearly enough personality or edge. Even the film's undeniably talented cast can't save it.
Brian Tallerico-HollywoodChicago.com
By the time the film reaches its convoluted, bombastic and preposterous climax, any sense of real magic that it once conveyed has utterly vanished.
Shawn Levy-Oregonian
Filmed in Spain and Canada, Red Lights is limply staged and even more uninspiringly shot - everywhere looks like nowhere. The effect of all this is a total lack of emotional connection to these characters right from the start.
Rob Boylan-Orlando Weekly
Red Lights ends with much fury, and it only underscores how silly the whole misfortunate thing has become.
