Review For Thelma & Louise
This unexpected delight, which travels at top speed from the doldrums to the Grand Canyon, is moreover blessed with two high-octane performances.Carrie Rickey-Philadelphia Inquirer
There are plenty of great one-liners in Callie Khouri's script, and cinematographer Adrian Biddle never fails to give viewers an eye full -- even when it's a ridiculous eye full.
Michael Upchurch-Seattle Times
The feminist justification that the script provides for the heroines' behavior doesn't make their actions any less preposterous. But you can recognize the crudeness of the movie's narrative devices and still have an awfully good time.
Terrence Rafferty-New Yorker
Thelma & Louise isn't only a movie, it's also a journey. In some dark night of your distant past, you might once have dreamed about taking it.
Jay Boyar-Orlando Sentinel
If the only way a woman can light up the screen these days is with a .38-caliber pistol, isn't that just another form of subordination?
Peter Rainer-Los Angeles Times
Are we so starved for "strong" women's roles that this revenge, and the pell-mell, lunatic flight that follows, fits anyone's definition of strength, or even more peculiarly, of neo-feminism?
Sheila Benson-Los Angeles Times
If director Scott intended to picture a growing sense of female triumph, he failed miserably.
Candice Russell-South Florida Sun-Sentinel
Thelma & Louise has its own ending. It may be as questionable as the rest of the picture, but at least you know it wasn't spliced on by some guy in marketing.
Gary Thompson-Philadelphia Daily News
Female empowerment and gorgeous vistas from Ridley Scott,
Jamie Graham-Total Film
Any movie that went as far out of its way to trash women as this female chauvinist sow of a film does to trash men would be universally, and justifiably, condemned.
Ralph Novak-People Magazine
The two lead characters, played by Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon, are appealing at start but become tiresome as they move along.
Lou Cedrone-Baltimore Sun
In creating the characters Thelma and Louise for this hugely entertaining and controversial road movie, Oscar-winning scriptwriter Callie Khouri put women in the driving seat for the first time.
David Parkinson-Radio Times
Loyalty and friendship between two women who discover beauty, lust, and the wonder of the road is at the heart of "Thelma & Louise."
Cole Smithey-ColeSmithey.com
A film about the type of women's liberation that I despise.
Felix Vasquez Jr.-Cinema Crazed
Thelma & Louise encounter representatives of different types of maleness from barroom skirt chaser and leering truck driver to the swaggering young hustler (a star-is-born Brad Pitt) who delivers Thelma's sexual awakening and steals the pair's cash.
Jason Best-Movie Talk
An exciting slice of action cinema, a poignant drama, a snarky southern-fried comedy and a knockout road picture.
R. L. Shaffer-IGN DVD
Iconic film from the 1990s.
Dennis Schwartz-Ozus' World Movie Reviews
Say what you will about Thelma & Louise (many have), but there's no doubt that it was a zeitgeist picture with a potent cultural impact. [Blu-ray]
