Movie Overview For Goats
Having a self-absorbed New Age mother and an estranged father means 15-year-old Ellis Whitman has grown up relying on an unconventional guardian: a goat-trekking, marijuana-growing sage called Goat Man. So when Ellis decides to leave the alternative ways of his desert homestead for a stuffy East Coast prep school, major changes are in store. But not in the way youâd think. Though often stoned, the exceedingly smart and capable Ellis effortlessly aces school and excels at track. As the year progresses, itâs his relationships with the adults in his life that test him, challenging his beliefs about responsibility and trustworthiness.TagLine Goats

Review For Goats
Nibbles on a lot of stuff it never gets around to digesting.Robert Abele-Los Angeles Times
If I were Holden Caulfield, I might call it lousy.
Sara Stewart-New York Post
If Mr. Neil had the tonal mastery of Wes Anderson, "Goats" could have been so much more than an episodic sequence of whimsical little psychodramas.
Stephen Holden-New York Times
"Goats" is just b-a-a-a-aad.
Joe Neumaier-New York Daily News
... a stubborn, mangy, tangled-haired mutt of a movie -- one that could have used a little more guidance and construction and a little less free-range 'quirkiness.'
James Rocchi-MSN Movies
Loses the flavor of the journey.
Lisa Schwarzbaum-Entertainment Weekly
A sweet junket into the land of the new agers, and youth that refuses to grow old.
Ron Wilkinson-Monsters and Critics
A strong cast and the sweet and simple nature of the script (based on the novel by Mark Poirier) makes Goats a charming little indie tale worth the viewing.
Shannon M. Houston-Paste Magazine
A movie that isn't terrible, but--apart from the goat fixation and Duchovny's zonked-out turn--doesn't offer much that hasn't been done elsewhere, and often better.
Frank Swietek-One Guy's Opinion
A capable cast can't elevate this mediocre coming-of-age comedy.
Todd Jorgenson-Cinemalogue.com
This is a very effecting drama about a teenage boy buffeted by starkly contrasting role models from the adult world.
Kirk Honeycutt-honeycuttshollywood.com
The actors struggle to seem off-handed, much as the script does. Goats needs to be more goat-like in every way - unbridled, untamed, randy - and it never is.
Marshall Fine-Hollywood & Fine
Pretty, confused and thrilling to analyze and revisit, Goats is just like adolescence.
Phil Villarreal-OK! Magazine
Christopher Neil's film is more location-scouted and photographed than directed and acted.
Kalvin Henely-Slant Magazine
[The] solid cast ... can't make the film feel like anything more than a meander through the familiar-feeling angst of a privileged teenager.
Alison Willmore-AV Club
"Goats" is an amateurish coming-of-age movie made up scattershot ideas that are never developed.
